Going Green

We are pleased to announce that we are “GOING GREEN”! In going green we have made many changes to the way we operate our hotel; within our rooms department, our restaurant and administration to help the environment. Following are some of the changes we have made and a few ideas of things you can do to help us. We have started our project by taking out the standard house hold light bulbs in the rooms and replacing them with compact fluorescent lights (CFL’S), reducing the wattage per fixture from 60 to 13 watts. In your room you will also notice a blue garbage bin for recycling. The blue bins are for anything that can be recycled, bottles, cans and paper. For every ton of paper that is recycled we are conserving the following; 7000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and enough electricity to power an average house for six months. To help the environment we have also changed our cleaning chemicals to environment friendly chemicals. If staying with us for more then one night your linens will be changed every three days. If you wish to have them changed before this time please hang the “Please Change The Linens Today” sign on the out side of you room door. This will indicate to the room attendant that you would like them changed. If you would like your towels replaced we kindly ask that you place them in the tub, towels hanging up will not be replaced. In participating in this program you will assist us in saving thousands of gallons of water and hundreds of gallons of detergents. Turning off all the lights in the room and turning off the television when leaving the room will reduce hydro usage significantly. Did you know that the energy saved off recycling one aluminum can, can power your television for six hours! All staff and management here at the Fort Howe Hotel & Convention Centre are dedicated to helping save our environment. If you have any ideas or suggestions please let us know so we can better our part to save our environment.
